I'll be racing, so I don't think I want to mess with it. Thanks folks. I'll stick with my Novak GTB and pay the money.
If you are gonna pay that much cash do yourself a favor and get a Tekin. I just put a 13.5 in my B4 and got the 200 software. Once the turbo kicks in it's like hitting a whole separate gear! It's unbelievably fast. And unlike the GTB you get reverse. (sometimes)
The ESC is 1/2 the size also.

I completely agree that the VXL motor is great but the ESC is garbage. I love their motors. Very smooth for a sensorless system.

GTB has a reverse profile! And it works

Yes, the GTB does have reverse. Regardless, I think you're right about the Tekin. That's what I ended up deciding on. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

REALLY???

Well I'm an idiot.

I've had a total of 1 (and will never have 2) GTBs and I bought it used w/o the reverse and all the guys I've ever seen at the track never have reverse so I thought it was a pure racing ESC.

Either way, the GTB doesn't have the amazing "turbo" software the Tekin does. I've never seen two motors that are rated the same be so different.

I've got a VXL system in my B44. The power is smoothe and OK. The crappy part is the initial throttle hesitation. If you use a tiny-tiny amount of throttle, it kinda hesitates and bobbles around before actually moving the buggy. Does anyone else have this problem?

That's what sensorless systems do.

Yep!

Especially the VXL.

With Castle sensorless systems you can tune the ESC with the castle link and play with your radio settings to get rid of MOST of the cogging but it will still do a little bit.

I have 2 of the new vxls and they are average.

Pros
1. ESC can handle @ss LOADS of voltage. I run extreme gearing in my vxl rustler and it never goes to thermal shutdown.
2. Cheap
3. Support is GREAT! I blew a motor and they replaced it in the same day. I live in Plano next to traxxas.

Cons
1. Esc goes to voltage cutoff super early
2. ESC doesnt run on some batteries (DOnt have an explanation for this yet, however every time i try and run a SMC battery in mine it goes to cut off in the first 2 mins)
3. Can't program throttle curves and voltage cut off. The cut off is high for 3 cells so 2 cells cut off early.

Also...Traxxas states that it is a 3500kv "10.5" motor, but they appear to have more ballz than this.

I just don't want to spend $240 on a GTB sensored type system and the Velineon at $160 was seeming like a nice choice. Any thoughts?
fyi the velineon runs sensored, sensorless and brushed motors. to run sensored you remove the plastic cap on the front of teh speedo under the push button and plug your sensor wires in there. for running brushed you simply connect teh white and blue wires only the esc auto detecs what motor is being used and whats more is there is no motor limit
