Is my engine running at a good temp?

I have an RC10GT with a O.S. .12 CV-X engine and it is pretty much brand new. I have already broken in the engine and ran it a few times. Since i am new i just wanted to make sure my engine is at a good temp. Usually it is right around 230. If it is running to hot please tell me how to tune it right.

I also wanted to know how to get my car to stop creeping when it is at standstill. do i adjust the low end or idle stop?

thanks;)

adjust the idle..

My OS CV-X used to like it around 220-250 depending on conditions..

CVR runs about 230-260

I am moving this to the Offroad forum... perhaps we need a nitro offroad forum... I will figure it out later.

Carry on :)

haha... guess when i replied i failed to notice what forum i was in...

b3boy...that should be fine on the temp, you might want to richen the bottom end a little, if the truck is very punchy, .....also loosen the idle till that creeping stops...but not too much, you want the truck to idle...

Ok. Thanks for the help guys.
The reason I like to post things in the racing forum is becasue it will probably get more posts becasue most people only look at the racing forum and not the others. :D

And one more thing. there are two other screws. which one is the idle or low end or whatever

Matt M. 09-02-2001 02:31 AM

the low speed needle is the one that is on the arm of the throttle....points twaords the front....the idle is the one that sticks out twords the spurgear, you should be able to see threads....

B3boy 09-03-2001 06:20 AM

ok, so i richen the IDLE until it just stops creeping and then i richen the LOW END up a little to get more acceleration?

thanks:)

Matt M. 09-03-2001 08:16 AM

no, you are going to lower your idle, by loosining the idle screw.....you will be richening, more fuel, the bottome end to make the tuck a little easyer to drive, once the bottom end is set you may have to reset the idle screw...

ok thanks, i get it now. :)

I have another question though. How often should i take apart my engine and clean it up. I have put about one quart of fuel through it already.

Matt M. 09-05-2001 11:26 AM

i never take my engines apart...unless i am rebuilding....which is a gallon or two into it....just make sure to use a good after run oil..iuse yama lube storage oil....get it at a yamaha shop...

B3boy 09-05-2001 04:33 PM

ok thanks!

One time during my race the air filter fell off and dirt my have gotten in to the engine. Should I clean it for that or just leave it alone. One guy said that that anything that got into the engine was sucked right through and there is nothing i should do becasue the damage is already done if there was any.

thanks:)

TSR6 09-05-2001 04:57 PM

Well, that is true, but if it isnt damaged yet, oy might want to re-buld it to get anything else out. If it doesnt look damaged, and still has compression, you are lucky. Take the backplate off & the head... clean everything with denatured alchohol & put it back together.

We had a guy last week, brand new pistion & sleeve... ran it without the filter and it was junk in 1 day... it had no compression at all. Its his #2 piston/sleeve set now..

This time it fell off though...last time he never had it on  lol
