Did the icon change? It should look like a folder with a little zipper on it. You might just be able to double click on the zip folder then double click on the the exe file.

Just to be sure, your file name went from something like

example.txt

-to-

example.zip

Correct?

Interesting...

That is the file name I have too. What version of operating system are we working with here?

I am heading out the door in a minute here I'll be back later.

A thought would be if you are working with Windows 2000 (or even 98 although I am not sure it will run on 98) you need winzip or some similar software.

Google winzip and download and install it. Then you'll be able to work with zipped files. Note: this does NOT apply to XP or Vista.

I'll check back when I get back home.

ahh, Vista I think I know what the issue is....

Did the file name actually say TekinHotWire_Beta3_30_RS_V200.txt ? I am guessing it did not. It was probably just TekinHotWire_Beta3_30_RS_V200 as Vista by default hides the extensions of file type.

So here is what we do to fix this...

Click the Windows button (old start button) click control panel > click classic view > click folder options > choose the view tab > then find the radio button (or checkbox) for hide extensions for known file types un-select the option.
Click apply > Click OK then close the control panel.

You file type is probably actually TekinHotWire_Beta3_30_RS_V200.zip.txt So now right click on the file choose rename then back space off the .txt and hit enter. The Icon shold now change to the folder with a zipper then when you right click on it you will get the option to extract all.

Hope this helps!

Chris

Ok , on both computers I got it to a zip file but when extracting it just brings up the wordpad file and is still named a TXT file .

I already un-selected the hide file extensions option .

How big is the zipped file? Right click on it and choose properties. It should be 5.55 MB. Well, at least that is the side shown on my Vista laptop.

I have it installed and working on mine so I am sure we can get it working on yours!

Then there must be something missing because it shows the file is only 4 KB .

Oh,

Another thought!!!!!

When I received it on my home PC (via Outlook express) I had to go into the properties of the file and unblock it to get it to work. I would think Windows mail would behave the same or even more strict then Outlook express.

To unblock the file right click on it and choose properties. Then click the unblock button. Then click ok.

Hopefully that will get you up and running.

Chris

Oh, also if the file was marked as blocked from the first PC it will show blocked on the second one too. Gotta love Microsoft....
