Some of it has to do with what's on the factory shelf. Tooling new parts for a chassis are expensive. Tamiya uses many parts from it's tourers like the EVO V, 415 and 416 for the 501X-511 buggies. Just my take on it.

I like my 501X but it takes alot to clean and maintain (rear belt and diff), wish it was shaft to be honest.
