Charge Rate for Thunder Power 7.4v 5000mah 2s LiPo
Most LiPo chargers only charge at 5amps.
1) What AC/DC charger would you recommend?
2) What charge rate should you use?
Also, I'm noticing that chargers like the Triton2 and Duratrax ICE are DC only, requiring the use of a power supply.
Is there any benefit to using a power supply with a DC charger vs. an AC/DC unit like the Hyperion?

And for the longest cycle life balance charge every time. I received that advice direct from Thunder Power when I called them on the phone.
+1 on the Hyperion charger, I do not own one, but a few fellow racers own them and are quite happy with the product.

I don't believe the ICE has a balancer built in like the Hyperions do, added cost. DC only units most often have a higher chargeing capacity than AC/DC units.
Hyperion also makes DC only units, most of thiers are DC only.

I own that same battery, that 40c disharge rate is wicked!! I use an MRC Superbrain 989 charger which is an AC/DC charger with it's own power supply. It can charge up to 10 amps. I only charge my TP packs at 6 amps though, gets the job at a speedy, but safe pace. I have a separate balancer that I use in conjunction while charging.

thunderpower recommends charging all of their lipo packs at a 1s charge rate so for a 5000mah pack, charge at 5.0 amps.

As a rule of thumb for charge rate, for every 1000mah=1A, I have not gone wrong with this and my lipos are happy.
As in the earlier posts, I would recommend you balance everytime you charge, good for the lipos and better life out of it.

You can charge the TP packs at 10 amps, but it will decrease the life of the pack. Several fellow racers and I use this specific pack and we charge them at 6 amps. Yes, I do own a Superbrain 989 and I haven't had any problems with it so far. It can do so much more than the Hyperions at a similar price. It does not balance charge, but I have a separate balancer that I hook up to it while it charges, so it basically balance charges. Plus my external balancer balances the cells to within .01 volts of each other.

I have a SB 989 and a Hyperion 610i net (10amps). I still use my 989 but the Hyperion is a higher quality product IMO
