Default Anybody ever thought of this?

I was just sitting here and i thought on a nitro engine couldnt you file a flat spot on the shaft of the engine and put a pinion gear on it just as you would do with a electric rc, also you wouldnt have to worry about clutches either.

has this ever been done?

The car could not stop or idle in one spot. The engine would stall.

Oh ok i see the problem, i think. Is it because the whole shaft is connected to the piston and rod? Is this why?

I've had the clutch lock up on my 1/8th buggy before, it's very hard to drive. You can't stop or even go very slow as the engine will quit and braking is very touchy. I was able to finish the main but fell way back. You need a clutch so the engine can idle and can spool up under acceleration, way to think outside the box the clutch is as important as fuel or tires..........BB

I have thought of one thing, a tri tip instead of a hex tip. No more stripped screws! So the hex will be like a triangle. But, knowing how I think the next big thing will be an octo-tip.

That didnt come out the way I hoped, so I dont want to explain it. It is pretty pointless anyway. 3 or 4 sides would eb great though!

Ya it would i think the less sides the harder for it to strip?

i dont know why they make RCs with the screws that strip easily

screws strip based on the materials used to make them...Hexs are way better than phillips and thats where it started

I agree, i hated it when my tamiya was all phillips. then rc screws came out with a full hex conversion.
