Default What to get 11 year old son???

My son wants to get a rc truck. Want to stay with electric. Would like to buy something that he can get some good use out of. Went to local hobby shop and looked at some used. Had Traxxas Stampede and about 4 other 2wd trucks. I think they were Losi but that is all I can tell you. What do you recomend??

My 11 and 13 year old grandsons love driving their Slashes. I would not recommend Associated SC 10 since the stretched chassis has a tendency to break. Slash or Strike would both be good. There is also a new short course truck from HPI. I think it is the Blitz. The pictures I saw looked like it was made well. I would also buy what the local hobby shop has parts for.

He has a point with the SC10's tendency for the chassis to snap, but since its based on the T4 theres tons of hop-ups. So the truck can "grow" with your son. Another thing is that the SC10 kit gives you a sense of pride knowing that you just built that
And if he builds it himself he'll know how to repair it.

Depending on where your son will drive his RC, you may also want to check out the Losi Mini LST, it's a small version of the Losi LST nitro truck. Pretty fast, alot of hop ups for future fun, and can run indoor and out door.

Traxxas vehicles are very durable. Unless he has driven one before and is fairly good at it, i would suggest a rustler, slash, or the like.

Thanks for the replies!!!!! I realy like the idea of they being waterproof. Is Traxxas the only ones that are waterproof?

The SC10 chassis doesn't break cuz it's stretched. It breaks in the front just behind the front arm mount cuz the new front bumpers exert more leverage on the chassis during impact.

So if you are interested in the SC10 but worried about chassis breakage, just remove the front bumper. You'll lose the realism, but save the chassis.

I would say slash also, since they are pretty strong. My slash is the only RC i dont worry about letting other people drive, even with brushless. Also, If in the case he does break something, finding parts is as easy as buying soda at the gas station.

Personally i would go with the SC10 but really its all based on your budget and what you like.
If your looking for something that you can drive just about anywhere and is very durable, go with a slash. But if you want something thats bred for racing and has tons of hop-ups go with the SC10. There both around $200 but the SC10 comes as kit or RTR while a Slash comes as just a RTR.Its basically personal preference.
Theres also other trucks like the Losi strike or the Blitz that you could check out.
