Default Charging Lipos

I just bought 2 SMC 6000mah 28c lipos... I have been told when charging lipos you charge the amperage equal to the level of capacity. ie. 5000mah charge at 5 amps, 4000mah charge at 4amps ect.

Is this true? Can I charge my 6000mah at 6 amps? actually my charger only goes up to 5 amps. What is the rule of thumb on this?

That is correct. Charging at 1C is safest for Lipos. Of course lower charge rate is not going to harm then either. If you can only go up to 5 Amps on your charger then thats ok, it will just take a little longer to charge.

I will take about and hour 15 minutes to charger a 6000 at 5 amps... Takes about exactly and hour 1C.

Most company's recommend not charging above 1C, but some claim it is safe to charge theirs at 2C

1 x the Capacity, like it mentions above if it is 3700mah the that is 3.7 amps so that is the max safe charge rate.
As with any battery the slower you charge it the better for the battery

2C meaning he can charge them at 12amps?.. I mean, If his charger was able to support it?

I charge my SMC 25C 4900 Saddle Pack 2S packs at 4.9amps and my 4800 reedy 20C saddle packs at 4.8amps

Takes about an hour for each and I balance charge them every 10 charges or so just to make sure everything is kosher.

The most important thing is to make sure you are using a Lipo Charger!!!!!

STRAIGHT FROM SMC.. sorry but that is shear stupidity to charge a lipo at more than 1c sooner or later it will fail and it wont be nice..Gee wondering why all these lipo chargers only go to 6 or less amp charge rates.. NOT..

I thought 1s/2s/3s/etc. made a difference as well? Do I recall incorrectly?

The newer Hyperion chargers can charge at 20amps.

It all depends on what the lipo manufacturer tells you for his lipos. If they say 1C, you's best be charging at 1C or below. If they say 2C, you can charge at up to 2C. It saves a little time.

Lipo tech is charging pretty rapidly and the newer lipos coming out have a better, diff medium inside and can support charging at higher rates. The newer lipos are often capable of 2C (or higher) charge rates.

Bottom line - follow what manufacturer recommends for charge rates.
