The Novaks are great ESCs, but the Mamaba Max is hard to beat. You can get a new one for almost the price of a used Novak. The Mamba Max probably has one of the better programing interfaces and it does brushless/brushed, and sensor less motors. So you are covered for every type of motor, and I am pretty sure there is no limit on any type. I saw one here on our buy/sell section for 95 I think. I see them regularly for less then 100$, maybe not the absolute cheapest, but I think the best bargain and value for your money!

I've got a Hobbywing EZrun sensorless ESC. I got the 60Amp ESC, and a 8.5T motor for $100. It's been ROCK solid in my Slash, XXX-4 G+, and XXX-S G+

Ezrun is a great speedo if you're running mild motors I run one in my B44 with a LRP 7.5t which is about the same KV as the Hobbywing 5.5t.
I run Mambas when I wanna run 5.5t or faster they are great value too.
Neither speedo cogs with mod motors, 17.5t isn't really suited to sensorless.

My 8.5T EZrun in my XXX-4 has no problems keeping up with the other 4wd cars in my class. I am a bit slower down the straight, but everywhere else I'm golden. They are running anything from 5.5T's to 7.5T's. The 60amp ECS is good down to a 5.5t, so I don't think your going to have any problems.
