MRC Super Brain 977- Can it do lipo?

I have this charger, and I am a bit confused. The manual states that it CAN charge lipo. On the amainhobbies site, it does not lipo as a function:

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...rger-NiCD-NiMH

I have read around some forums, and some people say that they can run it on one port, the other both, while some say they can't at all.

So what do you guys think? Should I go buy some lipo batteries and use it, or would it be a bad idea with this charger? Thanks in advance!

Read the warning in this tech note from Tower - see 2nd line

The prob these chargers have - they don't measure voltage accurately enough to handle the requirements of charging lipo as far as voltage accuracy is concerned.

977 can charge lipos on both ports (at the same time)

I use a MRC Super Brain 989 to charge my lipos in a lipo sack. Regardless of brand of batteries or charger, use a lipo sack!

Here is a set-up my bro and I use also:

One of these.... http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...y_for_Chargers

Will power 3 of these: http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...lancer/Charger

We run 2 of them each, so we basically have a dual charger for $120 plus shipping from Hong Kong for $40 or so (choose EMS to the US). Charges and balances up to 6S.

Don't bash it because it's not a Hyperion.......funny thing is that it looks exactly like this: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...er-6S-10A-250W

Plus it comes with every plug you will ever need and then some!

I use my 977 to charge my Lipos in my Slash,my Sc10 and my rc18t oval car all the time....never had a problem and you CAN charge 2 lipos at once or a lipo and a nihm at the same time

i have the 977 and it works perfectly with lipos as long as you plug up the lipo the set it to 2 cell, then hit start and it says lipo. it will charge the lipos at 2.5 amps. it works just fine with my orion 3200. should i be concerned?

anyone?

gulio 06-17-2009 02:55 PM

As long as the packs don't get over 4.2 volts per cell when at rest then all is well.

shaggy11 06-17-2009 07:02 PM

yea i have checked the cells with my balancer and they are fine but the charger wouldnt have passed quality control if it did that right?

gulio 06-17-2009 07:13 PM

I don't know.

lipo and 977

I have had the 977 for about a year and a half. I have two lipo trak power saddle packs and a team orion 3800 carbon lipo. I have charged any and all types of batteries at the same on seperate ports, with no problem at all. As long as when you press start on a lipo battery that it says lipo in the cell window

shaggy11 06-18-2009 07:12 AM

yea it does i was just making sure i dont need to be worried

It does have a LiPo charge/discharge ability, up to 3 cells (11.1 v)

I'm sure they either found out by now or don't care any more, as the thread was both opened in and has been dead since June 2009.
