Default mamba

can a mamba be geared to low that the motor would overheat?

Yes it can. If your lucky, the ESC will go into thermal protection and shut everything down before you do major damage..

There is NO temp protection for the motor, only the ESC can thermal. So for the first few runs check your motor temp. I like see mine no more than 140 degrees, although when the ambient temp is higher the motor will be slightly higher. If you've no temp gun then test with your hand, if you can hold your hand on it for over three second after a long run it should be fine. Basically if your hand can handle 150 degrees or so, any hotter and you won't be able to hold it for three seconds.
