As i put in the SP thread on all the other sites and on road section, the LED's were a minor oversight during the case design and you need to use the audible tone while calibrating. 99% of my feedback has been the exact opposite of your in the fact they rather enjoyed using the audible sounds instead of watching little blinking lights.
The setup shouldn't be to hard using the tones, or lights in the fact that it is the same kind of calibration as all other ESC's in the world have used for the past 20 years
