Need assistance choosing a motor for my RC8Te...

Hi,

This is my first post - so, 10x for this great forum.

I've just got my RC8Te still in the box, need to assemble it...
I already have Mamba Monster Max so i just need a motor to start running.

I'm planning to use the MMM with 2 x reedy packs of 7.4 2S 35c 5000.
Will the Tekin Redline T8 2250kV truggy motor should run OK with 4S ?

Thanks,
Dawn.

I have seen a lot of people run the neu motors with the mmm setup.

dawn 05-10-2009 01:08 PM

I can buy any motor but I thought since T8 is new and there is a special motor for truggy, it might be better (?!).

will 2600kv+ is too much for 4S truggy ?
I already have the 2650 mamba motor but will it fit ok ?
will the 2250 T8 shouldnt be better ?

Thanks,
dawn.

The Castle 2200 is a solid proven motor and will work well in your truggy. The Tekin should work well also but has not seen as much use so I would not say it is proven yet. If you get the tekin you can change the esc later to a tekin and use the sensor part. Both the Tekin and the Castle Neu should be good. Neu motors are very good and Medusa are good also just make sure that you get a 1515 size in the Neu and a 70 or 80 for the Medusa. I have 1 each of the Neus, castle neus and Medusas and I am happy with all of them just don't get too high of a KV motor. I will eventually try a Tekin but have not yet.

The 2650 will run hotter due to it being smaller than the 2200 and it has to "work harder". It will work but watch the gearing you will need to use a small pinion on it to keep it cool. I am guessing a 10T.

Thanks for your quick response...

I do think I'll go sensor later on, but I will start with my MMM first.
Since I'm very new in this field - Do you think 2200+- motors with 4S should run ok ? it's just sounds too slow... what do you think ?

In my 8ight T I run ~1700 KV Neu 1515 2.5 D and prefer the power to the 2200 Castle Neu. I run a 14 tooth pinion on the 2.5 and a 12 on the Castle. I only race I don't bash and it is real easy to get the cars too fast for the track. I can run ~ 20 minutes with these motors and gears and it is as fast as nitros.

Let's say I'll start with MMM and in a month or two I'll go sensor.
My only options are Tekin T8 now or SPasion which I don't like.

Do you think it's a big chance trying the T8?
What T8 tekin you'll try starting with RC8Te + 4S 35c + MMM ?
Money is no issue.

Before anyone can recommend a motor, we really need to know how long you need to run for. Are you racing? 10 minute mains? 15 minute mains? 20 minute mains?

dawn 05-10-2009 02:42 PM

I'll run a 15 minute mains.
As I already wrote, I have:
Unassambled RC8Te
2x 2S 35c Reedy 5000 lipo packs
MMM v3 ESC
Futaba BLS351 Digital Brushless High Torque Servo
5mm and 6.5mm castle bullets unassambled.
12gw and 10gw cables

Would like to start sensorless since I already have MMM v3
will like to go sensor later on...

I would like to try the T8.
I only missing the motor.

T8 (truggy) motors
TT2360 4038 2250kv
TT2361 4038 2000kv
TT2362 4038 1700kv

(I already have 13T pinion with the kit, but no trouble for me to replace it)

What is your opinion ?
Thanks, dawn.

idk man i have a buggy and im hoping to get a 1900 or 2050 when the backorders drop..for a truggy i would prolly say 2000 or the one above

plumslow 05-11-2009 07:54 AM

For me I would make sure to get the truggy motor and I would reccommend either the 2000 or 1700. I would buy a 1700 for personal use.

If you need to run a 15 minute main in a truggy, you are going to probably need to go with the 1700kv motor and a 4s 6000 pack. Truggies can burn a lot of mah/minute. Making a 15 minute main on 4s is already relatively inconsisent depending on your track, so it will be damn near impossible on 4s unless you get a 6000+ pack.

I just ran a 15 minute main with the rx8/t8 1550kv on a relatively big track with a 5s 5000 and I put 3700 back in the pack which basically means you probably would have dumped on the last lap running 4s. 18.5*3700=67450 energy vs 14.8*5000=74,000 energy. The 5s setup was no where near dumping whereas the 4s setup would be pretty close to the LVC or hit depending on where you set your cutoff.

Thank you for your quick response...

I've ordered this morning the 2250kv T8 truggy motor......
Do you think I've should have gone slower kv ?
Since I'm using 4S I thought 1700 +- might bee too slow.

You think going 4S 5000 with 2250 will not hang for 18min ? (3min spare).
Do you think I should ask the seller to replace the motor ? (it's not that late I guess)

Thank you very much,
Dawn.
