Yes I did try that combo but my motor/esc would thermal after 5-6 min of run time.

right now im running the mamba 6900 with a 17-87 gearing ratio. I just the truck last week and it has plenty of power. My question is should i be worried about overheating with this gear setup with the 6900 motor? I dont have a temp gun right now and im just curious what others think. A guy a ran into at my lhs said he thinks i should go to the smaller spur gear, i think the 75. I dont need the extra top end it would provide and want to keep the engine cool.

Any suggestions would be great.

Going to a smaller spur will increase your top speed and heat up the motor more. Are you sure he didn't mean go to a smaller pinion? Say, a 15 tooth?

yea, he said the smaller spur gear, the 75. I don't think he knew that I was running the 6900kv. He had the 5700 i think.

It seems like I should just stick with the 17/87.

Is anyone else running the 6900kv?

A good starting point would be the included 87 tooth spur and a 20 tooth pinion.

The 22 will get you going. With the small track you just might not need all the top end.

Default gearing

im running a novak havok - 87/23 - everything fits - car never thermals - epa is set at 77% on loose traction track - temp is 155 motor 130 esc after a 7minute main - truck runs like a scalded dog - only thing that would make it perfect is about 2.0 toe in the rear - and noone has this - that sux

what kind of motor are you guys running? I just tested mine on the street, granted, it's not the clay track, but 87/19 seemed way too low. I think I need to bump the pinion by a few teeth.

I'm running Mamba Max + 4600Kv. I'm thinking it might settle on 87/23... wonder if that fits...

Hello All,

The local indoor track where I race Is 80 by 40 I believe. My SC10 is geared 23/87. Yes there is a 23 on there. You pratically have to use a screwdriver to pry the motor far back enough, but it does fit without being tight. For the mains we run anywhere from 6-12 minutes. Last week was a 12 miute final. My motor was quite warm after 12 minutes, but I'm sure my LRP TC spec was cold. For today I'm going to run a 22 just for more punch out of the corners, it wicked fast on the strait!!! Oh I'm also using a Trackpower 4900 25c battery with the throttle profile on the TC Spec set to 5. I'd have to say for my track 22-23/87 is perfect with a 10.5/4300kv.
