A 23T barely fits with the novak, but it was a bit too fast.
Not sure how AE came up with that gearing chart????

I am running a CC 5700kv. Linear throttle curve, punch at 70%. Low motor timing.
15 pinion/87 spur. Throttle end point set at 80% after calibrating the ESC with 100% endpoint. Motor temp was hanging at about 130° after 15 min runtime on a high traction track. I tried an 18/87, which was a bit too much and running much longer than 5 min, the motor would get up to 150°
I think a 3500-4600kv or 10.5-13.5 motor would be the best for the SC10. I am pretty happy with my current set up until I can budget a new motor. Than I think I am going for a 17.5 motor if the track gets sticky about staying with ROAR rules.

Am I correct when assuming a smaller pinion will give cooler motor temps? If so, then if I'm running 18/87 with way too much speed (4600kV) that I could drop to a 16t pinion and therefore lower the speed of the truck and run the motor even cooler. Right now my motor runs about 140 degrees after a 7 minute main.

Well my track imposed a titan 12 turn motor only to the spec class so I tried out that slow motor. Found a 81/25 or 84/24 worked out ok. I installed a 87/21 and found I was getting beaten down the frt strait. but had total control in the turns. and not enough power for most jumps.I think I will try a81/26 and go up from there. But I need a new radio. my I think took a dump. So it may be a week before I get back out there. Ineed to sweet talk the wife a bit.

It sucks they would enforce a motor with a relatively high replacement rate. You should encourage them to settle on a motor of equivalent power in brushless or at least a brushed motor with replaceable brushes.
I need to keep playing with my gearing, I think the 4600kV can work with the right gear, I just don't like running with my throttle EPA turned all the way down.

I have been running a 5700 and with good traction and my punch control on high and epa limited it still screams and takes the 1/8 tripple no problem. there is going to be a mod class but it is for all 1/10 scale trucks. but oh well.

Hi all, I'm trying to understand what the sweet spot is for my setup.
rearviewmirror, I think I'm running the same ESC and motor as yours, I dropped in a Mamba Max+4600Kv motor. Timing is set to normal, and I didn't touch the throttle curve.
I'm going to give it a 87T/19T a try. That brings the final ratio to 11.9, which is close to what it was doing in my 4wd buggy. The 4600Kv is swinging a bigger tire this time, but I figure it might be lighter and it's 2wd...
Will let you know how that goes...
