gearing
hey guys i just bought a track star 3900kv for my sc10 rs for the second track i run its medium size loose traction i wanted to keep the stock 87t spur and have tried short 2-3 min runs with an 18t, 19t, and 22t pin but all seemed to run a little hot ive read all the posts on this thread and it seems that i should have hit on the right gearing based on alot of q's and a's buti cant believe i would have to run a smaller pinion than an 18 im going to buy 15t-17t tonight just wondering if i should get some dif spurs as well any help would be appreciated

i noticed my stock reedy motor was getting crazy hot with the stock gearing. i changed out the crap stock slipper "pads" (really just shiny plastic) for the "high torque" pads, as well as slightly backed off my mesh and my temps were much cooler.
i'm thinking of getting a 10.5 motor to run at my indoor, high bite clay track. i'm about to dive deep into this thread! #canonball

I'm running a AE SC10 2wd with a CC sidewinder SCT and a CC 1410-3800kv motor, and my top speed is 25.5mph but my acceleration is insane, what can I do to mellow acceleration? And increase speed? I'm running stock pinion and spur and CC said that 14t-18t pinion with 87t spur are my limits.. Do I go up or down on pinion?

Howdy - I've got an SC10b running a Turnigy Trackstar 80amp ESC and a 13.5t brushless sensored motor. I've managed to smoke the last 2 motors!
Per my manual, I ran with a 75 spur and a 30 pinion on the first unit. I thought I could control the heat, no dice. I stayed out on the course too long and *poof* - the magic smoke escaped.
Second go round, I upsized the Spur to a 78 and downsized the pinion to 26. Yesterday, again, the smoke escaped and the magic just died.
So now I'm on a whole new (3rd one) setup (friend had a spare). I'm going with 78/21. Any thoughts? After a 6-min bashing run in my backyard (not the same thing as track time, I know), temp was a cool 114. I'll take the rig to the track tonight and run some more intervals, but I'm curious where other people might start in terms of Spur gear.
About me - I'm not running bleeding-edge times. I consider a good lap to be 20 seconds. Fast short course guys are turning 15's and 16's.

I think I'm running a 23/75 in one of my SC10's and I never get close to hot on it. That was on a tight, high grip indoor track.

Does anyone have any suggestions for running a 13.5 on a 1/8th scale track?
Has a fairly long straight, but with the larger jumps, I'm not sure where to start as far as compromising acceleration and speed...
