the 2.4ghz radio it comes with is kinda decent. only good for the one car at a time I belive, so if you get to a point where you will be getting multiple cars, might be good to do the radio upgrade.

the stock SC10 tires are kinda crappy, but don't go out and get new tires just yet. Talk to the guys at the track you plan on running at, and they will tell you what tires work there.

the gear diff works just fine. the reason for the ball diff is increased tune-ability in the rear. But, best bet before you do that is to just run the truck and practice. get good with it as is, then worry about upgrading it (i.e ball diff)

Haha that's what I was afraid of, the constant upgrading.

Thanks guys.

Don't get me wrong, for the budget racer the RTR is awesome out of the box, especially the new RS. But if you ever become serious about racing, you'll find you could've saved money in the long run if you just got the FT to begin with.

I did race 8th scale for a while about 4-5 years ago, but had to get out because it was getting to expensive for a college students budget. Haha.

How are the 2wd classes holding up at tracks? Seems like 4x4 is taking over bit. I would prefer to race 4wd because of my buggy background, and it suits my driving style. But for the life of me not one shop has any sc10 4x4's in stock, and I don't really feel like waiting till september for one.

I am looking to get back into racing, not a big basher. I love the fun of racing but I want to at least be competitive. Every racer deep down wants to win, even if they are there just for fun! Haha.

2WD is still bigger than 4WD at most tracks, but the 4WD scene is exploding right now. In fact I think at my last club race, they may have been about even.

I don't bash either, in fact my cars only see the track and are never on the street. I made the mistake of just jumping back into the hobby with an RTR Brushless SC10 in April, then I ended up upgrading everything to FT anyway.

If you think you're going to end up doing that, I highly recommend getting the FT and choosing the right electronics the first time around.

Yes, it will probably cost twice as much now, but that's better than costing 3 times as much later and having a lot of useless parts laying around.

BAH- get the Losi SCTE, you'll thank me

2wd is still the biggest class at my track. 4wd is a lot of money for people to get into. I have $700 in my 4wd truck all in, whereas I'm around $400 in my 2wd.

I, too, only race. they only ever see the track. Been thinking about getting a Slash 4x4 to bash with though.

Back on topic, you don't have to have the FT truck to be competitive. But, look at the local track's classes. Make sure they have something to run that brushless RTR in, otherwise you'll need to spend money right away on a esc motor combo.

I was looking into the TEN but the cost for everything I would like to get it how I would like for racing is 1200 plus...for getting back into racing I wasn't looking to spend that much...but might jsut buckle and do it anyways! haha.

Haha, maybe if it made it lighter...

Well because I've been out for a while I need a lot of new gear, like 2.4 radios and such. After a while the kit, radio, servo, batteries, charger, esc (rx8, redline), etc adds up reaaaally quickly.

Asharus 08-09-2011 05:25 PM

I too agree on the SCTE. I was planning on getting the SC10 4x4 since I already had 2 AE vehicles at the time, but upon further research, the SCTE is the better truck. If you don't believe us, do the research and you'll come to the same conclusion.

Asharus 08-09-2011 05:31 PM

Hmm, I don't remember if mine cost that much.

SCTE - 279
92451 receiver - 50 used
1258tg servo - 60 used
mylaps transponder - 100
rx8 - 130 used
Novak 550 5.5T - 120

Then if you're just starting off you need:

airtronics MX-3X - $169
charger - $70ish
2 xcelorin 60c 6000mah batteries $260 !!!!!!

The research I've been doing for the past couple weeks, everyone seems to be raving about the SCTE the most. I might just have to bite the bullet and get that...but I know I wont regret it!

You won't, but it costs a bit more than a 2WD SC10 FT...

stevepowling 08-09-2011 05:38 PM

Yeah, mine was this. All from new.

SCTE - 299
RX8/Redline - 329
Spektrum Radio- 149
Servo - 129
Charger - 79
Battery - 80
Transponder - 100

It started to add up quickly. Haha
