Chase, All of the cars you've mentioned are good cars. I race an X1 right now, but i've had Kyosho, Mugen, other Ofnas, etc. All are very adjustable, with each having it's weaknesses, none are perfect, but the deciding factor for you will most likely be driving and tire choice, more then buggy brand name.........

Hey, sounds like most types of racing...............

Everyone who bought one particular brand will tell you to get that, since it makes them feel like they made the right choice if you buy one too................In reality, no club racer will win the worlds if he spends $3000 on the "best buggy and hop-ups".....get one you can find parts for and get help with set-ups, etc, then have fun racing............................Jim

To go along with the last post, I agree any of the top buggies will do fine at the club level. It's the driver that matters. Also, IMO all the bells and whistles are not required either unless the stock parts have durability issues.

I almost bought an XB8 or TT3 which I really like. But I wanted to save some cash, so I got a 777 standard edition for only $329.

I think it's a bargain and when it's on the track I bet you can't tell the difference between it and the SP1. I saved $300 which I can use to put a few of the SP1 hopups on if and when I want to.

Did I mention it was only $329?

Thanks for the info. I keep going back and forth between the Kyosho and Mugen. I've heard from several dealers that the Kyosho is hard to get parts for and can take several weeks. My question is, if Great Planes imports Kyosho, can't you just get parts from TowerHobbies?

Thanks again,
Chase

Of course Chase you can.

And also Tower is serious about the business. My order always ships the day after I give it. The only people who would say that Kyosho parts are hard to find must be Mugen dealers.

Does anyone know how much of the parts between the Kanai 1,2,3 and 777 SP1 are interchangable?

Looks to me as though the shocks and diffs are the same from K2 to SP1. Whats the issue with wishbones etc.

From looking at the manuals I guess some of the suspension parts are different but I can't see much difference between the diffs and the shock assemblies.

Am I right here?

Thanks

The only part I've broken so far is the front bumper. It's on a tree of parts with part #40540 and is called Rear Upright. You might also want to ge some extra parts that could break, bend or wear out like front axles, varioius rod ends, shock shafts, etc.

Yes

the diffs are interchangeable,
the shocks do fit although the sp1's rears are longer, (That is no problem)
I wouldn't say the same for the lower arms. They are indeed different both front and rear, but I have never tried putting them on. One thing is certain, if you use the Kanai2,3 arms on an SP1 or the opposite, you 'll have to check the car on a set up board, once I dont think that the corresponding let's say 3 degree toe in rear plate will give you 3 degrees of toe-in. (If you understand what I mean, I cant really explain, but I guess you get the idea)

Front knuckles
Fuel Tank
Engine bases
Radio box (duh!!!)
rear wing post
brake assembly
center diff assembly
Sway bars
are the same for all cars.

Hope this helps a bit

Thats great, thanks for the info.

When you say the rear shocks are different is the shaft different or the body?

Only ask because I can get some Kanai 3 parts for my SP1 and my SP1 needs a little TLC.

No
I mean that the shock shaft has the same width 3.5mm but it is longer than that of the K3.

Hope thats what you wanted to know

So far I've seen/heard about rear uprights, gear cases, bumpers, upper arms, C hubs, and rear arms breaking. The rear arms were fracturing in the same spot over and over again, and the gear cases were egging out the chassis and snapping around the screw mounts, all the others were just plain breaking.

The front shocks on the K3 will work on the 777 perfectly. The rear shocks require a longer shock shock shaft. Other than that, the only parts that will interchange are small parts like hardware, bearings, and bushings. The diffs on the 777 are lightened in the center, but the front and rear are identical to the k3. I beleive the center diff assembly will fit, as well as the front knuckles.
