Default Tekin T8 gearing in 9e?

Hi All,

I was just wondering if tschenck & ice-nine and anyone else running the Tekin T8 motors in the Hyper 9e could comment on the smallest pinion useable without modification?

Also if there are mods needed... what's involved?

This is just in relation to a couple of posts on page 6 (I think) stating the smallest pinion useable was 16T (maybe 15T).

Cheers All!

Special-RC Ebay site: $71 shipped

if the order works out ok, he will have a repeat customer.
this is my 2nd order with him. First one went fine, just takes a little longer then normal for shipping because its coming from taiwan.

I have a 17t on mine. There is a little bit of room before the fins on the motor will hit the cup on the center diff. I dont have the gear but I would say a 15t is probably as small as you can go with out filing off some of the fins on the motor.

I tried a 15t and it was just barely there, and I mean by 1mm or less. I'm trying a 16t to start for that reason.

The parts that I won on e-bay for $123 shipped would have cost $298 from Nitrohouse without shipping and they are only 150 miles from me on e-bay (that was a complete front + rear suspension, servo saver and rods, wing)

I have a Mamba 2200 in mine and the smallest pinion I can fit is 15 teeth with about 1/2 a MM to spare between the cup and motor case.
The race trailer is hooked to the suburban and the 9E is ready for the maiden voyage tomorrow at RJD in Lincoln IL.

Thanks Tschenck, Ice-nine & slo1 for your prompt & helpful replies!

How are you finding the gearing? Is 15T an acceptable lower limit?

Interested to hear how your maiden voyage goes slo1.

I'm hoping to run the Tekin RX8 and 1700kV Buggy motor on 5S at the moment. Will a minimum pinion size of 15T suit that combo you think?

Cheers and thanks again!

Well the maiden voyage went over about as good as the titanic

I made 4 laps in practice before launching off of a huge double and landing on the landscaping blocks that make up the edge of the jumps.
This resulted in the right front A arm being completely torn off and the CVD getting bent. I ordered the parts Thursday that I would have needed to get it repaired.

Oh well that is racing and that hit would have put any car out of commission not just the Hyper 9E.

I had 15 min to strip the running gear out of the 9 and reinstall it in my ST-RR
and switch from buggy to truggy class before the races started. I made it and eventually won the intermediate truggy class with the electric truggy that I brought with me in hopes of selling to fund the 9

Well I ran into a slight snag while building my 9E. One of the shock shafts came in the box missing a good amount of the chrome plating. I have to wait until Ffriday to get up to my LHS and see if they can replace it or find out if I need to go directly thru Ofna.

Ron if Lester doesn't have one I should have one on the way. I ordered a set of shafts from ebay late last week.

Sounds like you need a 2000kv or lower motor for the gearing to work out.
