What is the big deal about a "brace" under the motor. I have had about 10 converted 1/8th scales and never used a support under the motor. Never broke or bent a mount, what I have seen however is someone using a "support" had enough chassis flex to snap the bottom mounting screw off in the front of the motor.

I put a support plate in mine and promptly strip the lower motor mount screw out of my Tekin. I took it off and and spun the mounting end bell and no more problems. I think the chassis has too much flex to isolate the motor effectively making it a stressed member.

Use good quality fasteners, make sure they are tight and let the chassis flex its normal way, you will NOT have any thread problems.
Quality is the key, now days, you only get what you pay for......

Well, after reading this thread for a week or so, I bought a Hyper 9e and a Tekin RX8/1900kv combo. Good thread guys, keep it up....lots of great info! Definately helped me in my decision making process for a 1/8th electric.

By adding the turnbuckle link connecting the center diff top plate to radio tray. Reduces the unwanted chassis flex that is causing the motor mount screw stripping. While also reducing the play in the center driveline.

Who said it's unwanted? I know for the sessions I had it in the back end was far looser.

What parts are needed to do the rear wing mod so that a standard wing can be used? I've seen a few pics of hyper 9's with standard wings, is there a kit available, or aftermarket mounts?

That pinion looks aweful close to that elite mount. How in the world do you tighten the set screw on the pinion?!

I am assuming that this cam is standard for all his motor mount sets. If so, then the pinion opening is accessed from below.

one thought, I wonder if you could have a slot or relief drilled in the motor mount and cam so that you could also access the set screw on the pinion from above?

Push comes to shove, could do another hole in the chassis to reach it.
