I am getting ~30 minutes off of a full charge with a VXL brushless system.
Which brings a question to my attention. The Slash isn't a VXL Brushless system is it? That won't affect anything in regards to running a LiPo?

It isn't, but the stock ESC can handle upto an 8-cell NiMh, or 9.8 volts, so a 2-cell LiPo won't affect anything. LiPo's just provide a ton more available amps than NiMh, which is one of the reasons everyone went to LiPo.

Just like any thing else, you get what you pay for, dont buy cheap!

SMC, Max Amps, Trak power, Reedy all make good lipo batteries, and there are others as well.

You can buy one, easily for under $100

Stick with a name brand and get a Hard Cased pack.

Buy the MAH rating that fits your budget.

I get my lipos from www.nexusracing.com

They have quick shipping and good prices.

OK, well looks I may put this on hold. I was hoping I could get away with a couple hundred bucks to just get me going again. I'm adding it all up now and a new truck, a LiPo Charger, and LiPo Batteries are going to really set me back. Never mind parts replacements. I'm building a Jeep right now and am shopping for a house so this type of money I can't swing.

Well thanks for the input. Maybe once I get more settled I'll look further into. Cheers.

You don't need LiPo battery or a LiPo charger. Just get a Slash, a couple 8.4V batteries and a charger, and have some fun now....under 300$ shipped:

If you get the tunergy lipo charger I recommended for $37 from www.hobbycity.com, and a SMC 24C 4000 mah lipo for $64 from nexus racing, you are at less than $300 including the slash, and you haven't wasted money on nimh batteries.

Also, there some flightmax 25C 4000 mah lipos from hobbycity for $27 each. I have two of them. The performance is outstanding for $27, but the quality is dubious. I think they had a bad batch in january, because everybody that bought around then had issues, everyone else thinks they are the best deal out there.

Is that the HobbyCity one? Great chargers, I have 2. However they are about 50$ shipped, and will need a 12v power supply.

Yes, that one.

Maybe you are right, I know I got the charger, power supply, and those two lipos for $104 shipped.

Still a good deal.

Just get a Slash already....it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Works with my wife when the daily boxes keep coming

Hm, the only issue I see is the number of batteries I'm getting. I mean, how long does it take to charge a LiPo? I'm kind of leaning towards get three cheaper batteries to fart around with instead of buying one. When I get home from work I'll price out the 4000 mAh ones from hobbycity like you mentioned. This is really only something that I'll be doing every other weekend or something. Not really interested in dropping entire pay checks into the hobby like I did in high school.

It takes around an hour to charge a LiPo, and with a stock Slash and a 4000 mah LiPo, you are looking at somewhere around 45 minutes of running.
