Default LiPo question (yes, another)

I am definitely going to buy a LiPo battery and charger soon, and have a few questions concerning balancing, and how to do it.

I am thinking about this battery:

And this charger:
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/36971

I know the charger only goes up to 3.5 amps, but I have a few NiMh packs I can use while it charges.

Now on tot he balancing, how would you hook one up?
And what one do you recommend for the pack/charger?
I am not looking to spend too much, maybe $30, if possible, but not much more.

I just don't want my LiPo to explode, or catch fire, in other words.

There's nothing wrong with you choices, they'll do waht you want, charger will just take a little longer that some others.

Look at the pic of that lipo - the other wires that hav ethe little white plug - thats the balance tap or connector. Its wired to the cells so the balancer can read individual cell voltages. Here is a solid but inexpensive balancer - Astro Blinky - you slide the balance tap onto the leads at the bottom - read the instructions - you will start on one side I believe (taps bget bigger as cell count goes up). Its a good balancer, can balance while charging so you'll get an optimum charge.

That's exactly the answer I was looking for, thanks for that.
I looked at that balancer, but was unsure if it had to run through the charger or battery, which is why I asked.
Thanks!

Default lipo and charger

I use the DuraTrax Onyx 230 charger and its pretty nice. You can have different setups for different types of batteries. I'm not any pro but I havent had any problems with it. As a balancer I have the Common Sense Balancer which is almost like the Astro Flight Blinky . For lipo checkout Spec Point Concepts. Hope it helps.

I looked at that, but both Tower and A-Main are out of them, plus I don't really have the extra $20 or so for it, maybe if I get the money I'll go for it, but otherwise, it's not likely.

im not so sure about that charger. i think you could do better for around the same price, onyx 230, triton jr for example. the blinkey is a great balancer, but common sense rc makes the balance pro that gos for about the same price, and it has a voltage read out.

I just got enough money to order the Onyx, so I'll be doing that, It's only another $20, so not too big of a deal.

On sort of the same note, does anyone have any codes for A-Main?
$170 total is quite a bit for me, as I am a junior in high school and am looking for a job.
