Default LiPo Battery / Traxxas Slash

Hey Guys - I am new to this;

I recently put in a 5700 mamba into my Slash. I want to get into LiPo "craze", but am kinda nervous. What are some "newbie" things I should know? What is the basic/general care of a LiPo? Also, what LiPo's can you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance....

Get a LiPo capable charger.
Never charge at more than a 1C rate. (1C = mAh/1000)
If the battery is damaged or "balloons" while charging/running, discard of it and do not attempt to use.

Any battery by SMC, Orion, or Zippy (Flightmax, I think) are all good batteries.

Ok thanks. What about other areas of interest? Discharging, etc??

I'm not sure on the specific voltage, but never discharge past 3.2V per cell.

Granted it is "only" 2400 mAh, but it is $35, and made by a good company. If my stuff on Ebay sells, I will likely be getting 2 and a charger.

What do you think the run time would be (average) with my 5700?

I have only used the VXL, and that with a 3300 mah NiMh is about 20+ minutes.

But I have heard others using only 1200 ah in a 6 minute main, so maybe 15 minutes.

Cool, right now I'm running a 4600 NiMh. Should be some nice runs then.

Thanks!

My advice is stay away from cheap batteries, you get what you pay for.

Buy a name brand in a hard case.

Must have a lipo specific charger.

Take your batteries out of your car when charging. (Burnt up a b44 that way)

And buy a lipo sac. A fire proof bag that you should put your lipo batteries in when charging. Its worth the extra.$25.
