Default What are the differences between xx-4 & xxx-4?

Besides the 3 belts vs 1 belt setup. What makes the xx-4 so much better for a rough track over the xxx-4 that I read all the time?

When you look at the two together the xx4 looks like a 4wd 2wd buggy if that makes sense and the xxx4 looks like a touring car with off road tires.

I see the diffs are lower to the ground on the XX-4, but what makes it just handle a rough track better?

Ground clearance, suspension geometry, balance... I'm not qualified to explain it. I just like them both.

The XX-4 does handle very nice on rougher tracks, but is much more fragile than the XXX-4. I find that the XXX-4 is very stable in the air, while the XX-4 needs a lot of attitude correction. Some people like that, I dont. The XXX-4, regardless of what the "net parrots" say, is pretty darn tough! Most of the complaints about the XXX-4 come from folks that haven't driven one or haven't driven once since the advent of brushless power systems and LiPo batteries. Makes the world of difference. Both these 4wd buggies are old in terms of r/c cars. Both are still very capable. It does take a little know-how to get the XXX-4 set up correctly though.

hey pserve - what are the wings that you have on your buggies? they look nice and should be a lot more durable than lexan.

Those are from Hot Bodies. They're a little big, but do work OK. I would look at this instead...

I think I will be ordering one of those as well soon.....much more durable like a 1/8th buggy.

Ya, I remembered seeing it somewhere a few days ago. Seems like it could be a better choice. Let us know how it works.

Both cars are very capable - I just ran a XX4 with a CR rear end and it's amazing with the brushless and lipo technology. I was running a 9.5 and able to run just as fast as B44 and Kyosho's with a 7.5. Now I have to get a 7.5!!

The XX4 is better over rutty surfaces compared to the XXX4 because it does have more overal suspension travel - hence the XXX4 is better on flatter surfaces with less travel. Set up right both are good.

Personally, I didn't like the oneway in the XXX4 - I like the characteristics of the the clicker system on the XX4 better.
