i agree get the brushless. alot less maintence. its not that much more expensive initially and you dont have to worry about it.
im getting the havoc system 13.5.
if your going to race check with your local track and find out what motor is stock class 17.5 or 13.5.
i have the orion 3800 and 3600 carbon lipos. i love 'em. no need to balance, but i do every 10th charge or so.

yeah pick up the havoc 17.5 kit.

that truck will be fine to run. still competitive
im not 100% sure but i think the newer xxxt-cr stuff will work on it

should be good but for $10 more you can get it at towerhobbies. and if you order before saturday you can save $25 more on it. so the price would be $204.99

would like to mention i know you got it from your friend but i would disassmeble it go through it real good. clean it up. and put it back to gether replaceing what you need to.
what you do is learn how the truck comes apart. will be faster at the track when you do have to fix something.

Thats OCRC all right. In beginner, you can pretty much run anything. The next class up is amateur stock truck, then sportsman stock truck, then superstock truck sportsman. Good to see some Losi's coming back to OCRC.

im not sure but i dont think that the mamba systems are roar approved.
cehck with your local track and ask if you can run it.
