Default battery?

i wonder if one of the new shorty packs, like from losi would work. i know they are made for saddle packs, but just to be different!

the kyosho zx5 bulldog body fits pretty well. not tight alogng the chassis but thats what i run. and when you cut it cut it lower than the line because the stock mount is so high

BTW .. the V3 Kuhler (sp?) shell is a lot more cab-forward that the original DEX410 shell, but still maintain the DEX410 profile, e.g.

Are the kit setups a good place to start?

Depends on the track your running at really. I started with BK's Reedy setup but have gone far away from it due to some technical jumps. I would say either Randy Pikes Nationals setup(norcal raceway) or Jorn Neumann's reedy race setup are pretty good. I have found no matter who's setup it is you will need to tweak it for your own driving style. Example, I am a touring car driver so I don't square off corners so my setup is a LOT different than most of the durango setups with ALOT of steering. If you use Jorn's setup I would start with the front shocks in the outer holes or use more internal shims to reduce droop. From there if the car doesn't turn as much as you want it to play with the rear roll center (his is in the top inside (long link) my setup is similar but is on the bottom hole instead of the top which makes the car turn in hard and have more corner speed.

My LHS tells me that it is out now. Apparently only 300 units were shipped and only to selected stores in the UK and US. So, if your LHS doesn't have them then they aren't one of those privileged stores. I don't even live in the US so us lowly plebeians probably won't see it for a while yet

I've been running this setup for a few months now and the car feels really well balanced. I don't run weights near the battery instead I've been using the tresrey weight under the gear box together with the brass skidplate. I also went one spring rate down from what I was running with saddle packs.

His user name is hottuna.

However I do remember him saying the power consumption was a bit on the heavy side for the Losi packs and he went back to saddle.

I would stick with the saddle packs. With the new generation of high C lipos and esc's that are configured to use them they actually operate more efficiently and can even lower motor/ esc temp when properly paired (Example R10 esc, orion v4 motor and 90c packs).
