GrapeJuice,

Me and a buddy are thinking of getting into 1/10 4wd. We have our eye on the this buggy. What are the pros and cons. How is the part availability and cost? I assume they are lipo ready. And lastly, what kind of motor/ esc set ups are popular other than the 300 dollar tekin systems. Battery type? Sorry for all the questions. We are leaning towards this buggy because of the gear diffs.

V3 should be even stronger than my 410R, especially with the HD ball cups and alloy suspension hangers. The car is also easy to work on.
Early versions with alloy side rails etc were a bit twitchy, but with plastic rear brace and side rails all is good, but still prefers a smoother driving style.
Part supply is good in the UK, and can't see it being any different in the US where the importer is HRP in Utah, and you can get parts direct from them if needed by ordering online. They also show were your latest model shop that supports TD is.
I use an Orca Vritra esc which is good, have also seen a lot of Hobbywings that by all reports are also good, and pretty cheap.
All legal Lipo saddle packs will fit, max height is 25mm.
For more info look at Oople.com, where there is lot of easy to access info.

The pro's are durability(alot of the 4wd buggies are on the fragile side), the gear diffs are great for reduced maintenance, car handles great. Parts so far are rather inexpensive (shock o rings are $1.50 compared to kyosho's that are 7-10)

Cons? Previous cars with the non hd ball cups have ridiculous slop in them. It was the price but now that the v3 is out that is gone. The gear diffs still don't have the corner speed of a properly setup ball diff but the difference is slight. And you may have parts support issues if your LHS doesn't stock parts. But they can be purchased through a hobby shop that has an account with HRP or online retailers like amainhobbies. Overall the only other thing I would say could be better is the overall weight (my car races at 130 grams over min weight) But it takes a beating and keeps going.

The esc/ motor setups depend on your preference. I run LRP SXX TC v2 with lrp 6.5 octa or 7.5. Anything with a motor limit below 4.5 should work fine. Tekin rs pro should work well. They are lipo ready, make sure you get a lipo that is 25.1 mm or shorter.

Overall a great buggy. If you need a starting setup etc shoot me a pm or start with Jörn Neumann's setup from the reedy race. I found kinwalds black spring setup to be great in the corners but lacked support in the technical bumps and step up / step off type situations.

Ok, cool. I thought maybe the big bores would be best on bumpy tracks. Maybe the idea is consistency . . . something I read. Will probably be late October before I start showing up at MHOR.

Overall a great buggy.
i agree with your complete statement. my opinion on the above:

i have noticed i have been able get the rear to rotate really well with the gear diffs and the have a greater "direct drive" to them.. i also have noticed that you have to drive this car differently than other 4wd.. i've watched Jorn and Lutz wheel these and the corner (drift) speed they carry is crazy. and the durango does pull alot harder (by feel) out of the corners than the others i've driven. i think the smaller the track you run on (point and shoot type tracks), the less these benefits weigh. but on med/larger tracks WOW.
