Is electric gaining more popularity? What are the more popular classes?
I see them as
2wd buggy
4wd buggy
stadium truck
Slash class

Well I think brushless and lipo technology has made it more popular.

I think it's getting more popular again, but locally we haven't seen much change. We actually were getting more racers a couple years ago... a lot of guys have quit or can't afford the time or money to race regularly.

mod buggy and stock truck have been the most popular classes in my area for a long time.

4wd comes and goes.... mostly is a big race class, not a weekly club race class.

Slash is a new fad... have to wait and see if it sticks for a while

I definately think we're starting to see a rise in electric popularity. As Dean stated, between brushless, and lipo technologies it has become far far easier to run electric stuff. Also seems like many nitro racers are talking more about running electric. Less mess, less hastle, IMO faster, and you can run it year around in-doors. Not much to disllike really.

Not to mention the addition of electric 1/8 scale really helps and that will evolve into a really large and popular class.

EL8ths as well as electrics are generally dead in Vegas...there are two of us here will electric RC8s...end of story. Slash's are popular with the kids but no racing...

Electric seems to be out numbering nitro around here, at least for the indoor season (the local track allows nitro indoors).

I think it depends on your location and what existing tracks are around those locations. Electric will pick up in areas that are close to residential areas where noise could become a factor.

1/8th is popular are area but I think in time as housing and business moves closer in on them again the noise overall will kill them. It only takes one persistant person to cause a track to close. Not everyone likes to hear the continual noise of a nitro car so best thing is to try to limit the noise level if you can.

I like to see the growth of all classes of racing but economy will play a large factor in that nowadays so will have to sit back and see what goes on over the next few years.

Locally we've seen quite a few Nitro guys coming over via the Slash Class. Once they get over they have been migrating to other classes as well. On a whole, 2wd Buggy and 4wd Mod have exploded at CRCRC in Columbus.

We have a big race coming up. I'm certain the 8th scales will outnumber everything else, but it would be a decent cross section of the local area, shameless plug:

The track I race at has not sold a Nitro buggy kit in the last few months....

I have been racing now for almost 21 years and this is what I have figured out. Rc racing goes in circles. It will be popular again and then it will die off. I love electric off road. We will really see how popular it is when the nats come to omaha.
