Why is there no reverse??

That is exactly what it is for. It's to stop someone backing out as another car is flying past

backing into someone is part of it. I'd say it has more to do with the esc's of 20 years ago. back then the transitors were not as efficient( I believe they weren't using fets yet but I'm not sure) and they were expensive.
by cutting out the reverse, they cut the on resistance of the esc in half which made the cars faster. it made the esc's smaller and cheaper to make too.
I believe that since not all people were using reversing esc's that they made rules to make it fair.

also in this day and age, there are esc's with the option to lock out reverse.

They're allowing it in the Slash class at Harbor Hobbies in Illinois, a) because like you said it happens in 1:1 racing and that's what the Slash is trying to replicate, and b) the trucks are so durable that the odds of backing into someone and wrecking them is significantly less. Still frowned upon if you don't look before backing, but if the track's clear then go for it.

I haven't been racing very long and call me a hack; but I think if all the cars are electric and capable of reverse then let them have it.
How many of you have ever been left for dead by a turn marshall when reverse could have gotten you back out there?

things are evolving. my local on-road track allows reverse for the mini class. I think thats because all the kits now come with a reversing esc. its also considered the "beginner class" and it gives the marshalls a bit of a break.

I've been frustrated MANY times by Slash turn marshals who see me get pointed into a wall or pipe and just stand there, waiting for me to reverse and go...I have reverse locked out on my ESC but being turn marshaled by people who expect you to have reverse is not much fun. Don't assume, people!

All of the slash guys use it at the track I go to and all they do is create more havoc then normal. The rookies use it too and they usually have the same problems as the slash guys.
