Default Onyx 230 and 14.8V 4-cell lipo for starter box

So I picked up the Onyx 230 several months ago to charge my Slash lipo battery. Yesterday I made the upgrade to a smaller, lighter starter box with a Reedy 14.8v 4-cell lipo battery. Just my luck, the Onyx 230 doesn't support 4cell lipos. I don't suppose I can charge it on a 3cell setting and it will just take longer? Suggestions on an affordable 4cell charger?

Guess I shouldn't have said starter box, huh? I know how you electric guys like to look down at us gasholes. I just figured since you're all electo-wizzes maybe you could take a second to help out a fellow RC racer. No sweat, I'll find out through other means. 'Tanks fer nuttin' Danny.

well since youre being rude if you read the onyx 230 manuel it will tell you it will only charge up to 3 cell lipo packs. this is coming from a guy who races both gas and electric. SO THERE GASHOLE!!!!!!!

Terrific spelling, sentence structure and punctuation. Exactly what I expected.

LOL at this tread for a couple of reasons. #1, the OP being a baby. #2 Him being a baby when he answered his own question in the original post. Charging at less mAh is OK, charging the wrong number of cells is a fire hazard.

This is the answer I needed in the first place you tool sheds. At least you can spell. Consider yourself one of the elite amongst your peers. Oh, and calling me a baby betrays some genuine maturity on your part. You should be proud.

I'd like to point out that charging a 4 cell with a 3 cell charger won't work.
the peak voltage of a 3 cell pack is 4.2x3=12.6v
the minmum voltage of a 4 cell pack is 3.2vx4=12.8v.
to charge a battery the voltage from the charger needs to be higher than the voltage of the battery so nothing would happen. (the charger wouldn't start anyways). you would risk blowing up your 3 cell charger because the power from the 4 cell lipo would back feed it.

the work around is to split your pack in 2. then you could charge 2 separate 7.4 lipos. you just need to make a harness to put the packs in series to plug into the starter box
