You cant go wrong with a Team Orion 17.5...we have several guys running them in their stock classes at the local track and they are very quick and smooth motors...also you can run your own sensor wire so that you dont have all the extra wire that comes with other motors.

I ran Mod 2WD Buggy and Mod truck at CRCRC with Tekins RS Pro and Redline motors in both of them. I ran my Mod truck in one of the qualifier races. The the sensor wire disconnected by the speeedo with 4 minutes of the race to go. I know something happend to the truck. It had a different RPM to it.
After the race. I found out about the wire off by the speedo. I reconnected the sensor wire. No problems, still runs great.
Infact, This past weekend. I won The A-main at the track I run weekly at in Mod truck with the same Tekin RS Pro and Redline 7.5 motor.

But.... that's just it. There are a lot of guys running stock that honestly... can't handle a 13.5 and would be better suited with a 17.5 that is the same speed as the good ole days of 27t stock.
13.5 is a mild mod
IMO, unless it's a big race, only 2 classes are needed... mod and stock. At big races I can understand doing an intermediate class also. Or splitting it up based on ability and not motor, like is done in 1/8 with sportsman and expert.
