carpet off road has taken off in my area big time there are 4 tracks you can run all week tues, thurs, sat,or sunday racing all of them are with in 50 miles of each other, and 2 are within 10 miles of each other. We also have a carpet off road championship race coming up in march. I can see them becoming the next big thing cheaper to operate and easier to set up then dirt tracks.

its not a bad idea if thats what you like but the whole challenge to off road is dealing with the inconsistants, ruts no traction, off camber, moist track dry track thing like that is really what makes it fun to me. although it would be cool to put carpet in certin parts of the track over the dirt just to change things up a bit

My club has been doing it for years, if you look to www.marcca.com you'll see a picture of the indoor track on the homepage.

The layout changes every week.

There are some downsides, such as not being able to run anything but an offroad truck and the carpet really gets beat up badly.

Oh of course, if a decent dirt track were in the area I'd be all over it in a heartbeat. But you race where you can, and in January in Wisconsin the options can get pretty limited.

And when a dirt track gets as groomed and rock hard smooth as cla5675 mentioned in his original post, and with that layer of carpet goop that builds up on block tread tires like the ones that come with the Slash, carpet tracks start to act more like dirt than dirt tracks do.

RC Madness in CT has some great carpet offroad racing. It is also the home of the 1/18th scale nationals every year

What tire setup are you using for your lazer on the carpet track?

Thanks in advance
