Default Power supplies.

Quick question, why do most people have a 12V power supply plugged into the mains and chargers plugged into them?
Why not just make the chargers plug straight into the mains?

Good question..

I have always wondered why the top of the line chargers are all DC.

It's handy when running off a car battery.

That's all I can think of.

1. Cheaper to make.
2. Keeps a heat source away from the charger (especially important in discharging).
3. Multiple Chargers off of a single power supply.
4. Less chance of failure for the charger.

It takes a power supply capable high amperage to run most battery chargers.

Just think of a dual battery charger charging 2 batteries at 10 amps.

The chargers would be huge just to house the power supply.

I have a Bull Dog 30 amp power supply. I can run all kinds of stuff with it.
