Default BJ4 to B44

Can a BJ4 be converted to a B44? I have a BJ4 worlds that has only been raced 2-3 times.

What are the major upgrades on a B44 that makes it great?

There is no way to convert one car to another. The major difference between the two cars is the slipper and servo assemblies. Everything else remained similar, with minor tweaks.

the plastic front end of the B44 holds up better then the BJ4 WE front. The BJ4 has a super stiff front end and all the give is on the arms which break at a decent rate, Since swapping to the B44 plastic front.... No breaks.

Will the entire B4 front-end bolt onto the front of a BJ4? Also, do you guys know if the servo saver assembly from the B44 work on the BJ4? Thanks.

I was able to mount the B44 bellcrank assembly on to my original BJ4 with just a little bit of "engineering". Essentially, I used entire B44 assembly with the exception of the top piece that locks to the top deck. I ended up "pinning" the stock BJ4 graphite piece to the vertical portion of the steering assembly.

It came out pretty clean and is a great addition to the original car. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

I'll do my best to describe how to install the steering setup from the B44 onto the original BJ4.

Parts need:

#9743 Associated steering composite parts set
#9744 Associated steering hardware set
#9746 Associated steering bearing set

Step #1
Mount the B44 steering retainer column onto the stock BJ4 chassis assembly.

Step #2 (This is where the modifications happen)
Using two 4-40 set screws, thread them into the steering retainer column. This will help "pin" the BJ4 carbon bearing retainer.
The steering retainer column will also have to be sanded on top to allow the BJ4 top plate to sit flush with the diff cases, motor mount and steering assembly.

Step #3
Assemble the B44 steering assembly as per the instructions.

Step#4
Drill a hole in the stock BJ4 carbon bearing retainer to allow a screw to fasten the top plate to the steering retainer column. This will keep everything in alignment.

Step #5
Install the top plate as usual. Use a 4-40 x 1/2" screw to secure the top plate to the steering retainer column. I used a flat head screw along with an aluminum washer to provide more surface area on the top plate.

The Finished Product

Summary:

I've run this setup for a few weeks now and it has held up great. The geometry of the steering components seems to be "spot on," and you get the benefit of having an actual integrated servo saver in the steering assembly.

Hope that helps.

PM me if you guys have any questions.

I just performed this mod to my "non worlds" BJ4 and ran into one problem that I thought I would add. Its obvious but would be good to know for anyone who may do this mod. The steering link from the servo arm will obviously need to be replaced with a MUCH longer one. I happened to have a few spare titanium tie rods laying around in my spare parts and fabricated a link with some rpm ball cups.

Otherwise the upgrade was very straightforward! I have excellent steering throw and a servo saver to boot! I will report this weekend after I get back from the track and let everyone know how it handles on the dirt!

I have one question though, who makes the slipper pads used in this kit? They are obviously not associated ones... Are they losi? Just curious...
