I ran an rx8 for the first time yesterday, in a new 1/8th setup. Everything worked great, except for a 2-3 second period in each race. In those 2-3 seconds I would lose all power, no steering, no throttle.

Has anyone experienced that symptom? I've heard from a trusted friend that it might be an issue with my rx8, but I supposed it could be an issue with my 4pk or receiver as well.

Each time, this occurred while off power, going into a turn.

Ideas?

This sounds like a typical DSM brown out. Try adding a receiver cap to your radio system. Spektrum sells one with a plug ready to go.

Top end is most often set by gearing. The 2050 is a beast but is one of the top choices by many.

I personally feel the 1900 is the best overall motor if you can only have one.

yep Randy is right, 1900 is the best all around. I'd only get a 2050 if you were on a big track or doing ALOT of high speed like on Euro tracks to justify all the RPM. Otherwise, Most American tracks with alot of technicals will be better served with a 1900 for efficiency and not having to fight all the power of the 2050.

Randy,
Do you know what voltage the Spektrum cap supplies? 6V? Would adding a capacitor on the battery leads (similar to rs or rs pro) have the same effect, or does it need to be in place after voltage step down?

Thanks.
E

E. The spektrum cap is a 12v cap if memory serves me. It's not really the voltage that it "supplies" rather it's ability to store a small charge and discharge it when the voltage supply goes below it.

It acts as a buffer of sorts. Even our TT3520 caps work great for this. Just look for a 16v 1000uf cap. Wire it up to an old servo lead, remove the white wire from the lead and install it in an open slot in your receiver.

Caps act as a stabilizer in circuits. So my electronics instructor says.. LOL They can help take away the voltage spikes. So, basically the same thing Randy said.
