Exclamation Problem with new Slash

I just got a new Slash and am having a problem with it. Keep in mind it is fresh stock out of the box with a Venom 3000 nimh battery. I charged the battery and installed it. Turned on the radio then turned on the truck but the light on the ESC goes red and nothing on the radio will control it. The wheels automatically turn to the right and sometimes will glitch around as soon as I turn on the truck. Any ideas what could be wrong before I call Traxxas?

Thanks!

Sounds like you need to program the esc.

He should still have power to his receiver, and thus still have steering. I dunno, try taking it to your LHS and see if they can help you out. If not, pack it up and ship is back to Traxxas.

I run in to this problem quite frequently at are track with the Rentals (#8), like stinger said, try reprogramming the ESC, and make sure if you mess up the sequence upplugg the Battery. it make take a few try's but its very simple. with radio on, hold esc button till red blinks , then hold full throttle, wait for flash then press button, then go to reverse, press button, and let go...let it do its thing and you should be good to go....Kevin

Is it possible there is someone around you using a radio on the same channel? Also try checking the crystals on the transmitter and receiver, they might be loose.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I tried to do the reprogram of the ESC but it wont even go thru the steps. Shouldnt I at least be able to control the steering?

Ive checked the reciever and crystals and it all seems good. No chance of anyone being on the same frequency around here.

On a side note, when I turn the radio off but leave the truck on the wheels go back straight but as soon as I turn the radio back on the wheels turn right.
Im kinda at a loss.

A possibility indeed. As a rule of thumb when looking at the receiver with the servos, ESC, etc. plugged in, the white wire(signal) should be closest to the crystal in the receiver. The black wire should be closest to the outer edgde of the case.

Don't worry about it everything is going to be fine. These cars are put together in some assembly line and the assemblers don't know if the electronics work or not they just box them up and off they go. i'm sure you are not the first for this to happen to.

Traxxas is very good about taking care of returns. I'd try your retailer first just to eliminate the waiting. If not, Traxxas will get you squared up.

I just thought of something else to check, someone mentioned the servo/esc wires being in backwards. Also check that they are not swapped - as in the esc plugged to the steering channel and the servo plugged in the throttle channel.
