Where can you get parts?
The AE RC18MT, T, B or R (Monster Truck, Stadium Truck, Buggy or Rally Car) are all based on the same 4wd chassis. Very upgradeable and parts availability is very good. Fast and durable also right out of the box.
I have heard good things about he Duratrax Vendetta line up also.

From my experience 1/18 off road cars EAT parts. So like bfast said where can you get parts?? A good deal can turn into not so good a deal if you cant get parts to fix it when it breaks.
Like mentioned the rc18series , duratrax vendeta , and even the mini-t are all good entry level RTR's. Plus if it breaks you can get parts from a dozen places on the web if your local hobby shop doesnt carry parts.
PLUS the cars I mentioned are VERY upgradeable, meaning that numerous aftermarket companies also make hop-up parts for them.
But for the most bang for the buck, trouble free out of the box, check out the Vendetta ST truck. I bought 2 of them for my son and I to race with.In 6 months of racing dirt with them we broke NOTHING.The only things I had to buy for them were a couple new motors and tires ...Because we wore them out!!
by the way, 13 is not too young to race.Dont sell yourself short, my boy has been racing since he was 8. Now at 12 he is one heck of a good driver!

The one you linked looks like its a Vendetta ST knock off - maybe they are the orig manufacturer? The electronics are diff, but the rest looks the same. If those electronics are decent and that's the same thing as a Vendetta, that's a great price, and parts are available.
Vendetta ST is pretty solid 18th - most convert to brushless and find the plastic cvds are weak and need upgrading to metal cvds. Then the plastic gear diffs go away and most upgrade to ball diffs. These 2 upgrades solve about 95% of all the probs and its pretty much trouble free from there. I have a buggy version and a ST and I've replaced the diffs, but still run the plastic cvds with just occasional probs.

oohh. okay... so what we are dealing with here is whether it has good quality or not right? but just to be safe its better to get the vendetta right?

the hbx car is a copy of mini quake. quality is not as high as anderson items but quite good, bad thing is its hard finding spares..
Anderson is the manufacturer of the vendetta cars (same as lrp shark series, blaze series etc, same cars under different names)
the original name for the cars if you buy them from asia is mb4, mb4t and mb4tc

just go with an rc18 what ever trips your trigger or get the factory team, build it your self and add what ever electroncs you need, and everone makes hopups for them.

the Associated 18B/T series is great and parts are everywhere as well as hop ups.
The Vendetta is cool too as most of the guys at our club race it. Very durable and relatively easy to get parts and the Duratrax replacement parts warranty.
Either one is good fun.

stay away from that junk, its all made in china has is sold under like ten different names, get off your butt and support the lhs, most of the time time they don't sell junk and have the parts for the item, if that made in china junk is what you want they are all over ebay. Or if you don't spent a lot there are plenty of popular brands that sell rcs for under $150
