Increased timing will increase power, but decrease efficiency. Don't go beyond 24 degrees.

A safe setting for most motors is around 12 degrees advance.

Retarded timing should never be used.

Motor Timing

Never decrease timing. Increasing it will definitely give you more power and RPM. I personally use 5-10 degrees to give me a little more scoot without too much wear on the motor. If you go too high you will get more no-load RPM, but all that does is waste power.

Mod Motor Timing

Hi ,
There's a Great Feature on Motor Timing in latest Radio Control Car Action, Jan 2004, great reading if your been racing Stock... Hope that helps, Luke.:sneaky:

Increasing timing increases the RPM of a motor and reduces Torque. The motor will still make the same total horsepower, but its powerband will be different. Its a trade off.

Use more timing on tracks with lots of turns, jumps and short straights with a smaller pinion gear. Higher timing also drains the batteries faster, and causes more arcing in the motor so use a slightly stiffer brush spring.

Use less timing on larger, tracks with more straights with larger pinion gears.
