Make sure your soldering is right. Many similar situations have been fixed by resoldering, and making darn sure there is no stray strands between the close motor tabs. Maybe not it in your case, but it's easy enough to redo to be sure, if you haven't already. Good luck.

Motor was wired correctly and ran great until this happened .

My GTB ran in brushed mode just fine even though it would not run in brushless mode. I really think your problem is the speedo. The only way to know for sure is to try another brushless motor and see what happens.

From everything I've seen both personally and at the track the speed controls are typically the culprit of a system that doesn't function properly.
