Rule of thumb for tire compounds?
Hello all,
What is the rule of thumb that you guys use for determining which tread/style/tack/etc that your going to use on a given track. The track that I race at is fairly smooth and hard packed. Red GA clay... Only one long straight away. Some nice jumps a few bumps here and there. Mostly geared for low end torque. Looking for a way to keep the truck from spinning out so easy. Could really use all the help I can get. How do you recommend one setup the shocks and shock oil weights too? Sorry for all the questions, but you guys seem full of great answers so I figured it was worth a shot to ask. Thanks in advance, |
i know at the local track i go to you have to use SLICKS losi pink taper and you grind them down to 0% tread for the front and back

The best way to find out is still to ask the fast guys what they use ;) Usually you will have some of the more dedicated racers try many many combinations on a local track, and you can bet that they are running the best option.

If it's soft then go w/ big spikes, they will sink right in & the soft dirt will not get stuck between them. If it's hard w/ dirt on top then go with little spikes, they will pierce the dust and give you lots of surface contact on the hard ground below the dust. If it's basicly like concrete then run slicks. On georgia red clay I would run step pins if it is wet & run hole shots if it's dry. Dry red clay is a tire eater though.
