1/8 buggy to CORR truck conversion
 

Well I just finished my Slayer to PE Revo brushless conversion so it was time to move on to something new. I owned both a Slash and Slayer, and I really liked the CORR truck concept. The Slash was fun but a little too slow for my taste, the Slayer was faster, but didn't handle as well as it should and it was nitro. The new Associated SC8 looks better but I already had a spare 1/8 scale roller sitting on the shelf so I decided that I would build a CORR style truck based on a 1/8 Kyosho Kanai nitro buggy. This buggy was previous converted to brushless, so the motor mount/battery tray was already in place. I bought a Proline Hardcore body and trimmed it to fit on the buggy chassis. I removed the 10mm offset hubs and replaced with standard no offset hubs. I added Ofna wheels/tires. Since the truck no longer had a rear wing and most of the impacts would be absorbed thru the body I wanted to retain the wide mounting of the Slash body mounts, plus they were made of some pretty tough plastic which would help the body absorb any crash damage. I wanted to mount them to the shock towers for a good strong mount, so I made some simple aluminum brackets, attached the Slash mounts to them and bolted them to the shock towers. The body mounts are both adjustable for height and pretty cheap to replace if they break. Next step, I will start work on the front bumper and nerf bars.

Well I got a little more done tonight. Finished the battery tray, added the straps, padding, velcro and bolted the tray to the chassis. The straps are held down using steel washers that have a rubber pad bonded to it, this setup holds the strap but the rubber pad prevents the washer from cutting into the velcro. I have a picture showing how a 4S NeuEnergy lipo fits and another showing how a Zippy 4S also fits, with the Neu being fatter and the Zippy being much longer. They both fit with no problems.

3M dual lock Velcro on the battery and tray keeps the battery from sliding around.

Ok, a few more updates. I recieved the 6061 aluminum I need to make the front bumper bracket. I already had a custom skid plate fitted, I removed it and used it as a template to make a copy, except I made it about an inch longer. I bent the new skid so that the bumper would be at the right angle to match the body. I bolted the stock Slash bumper to the extended skid and bolted the skid to the chassis.

Worked on the rear bumper. I used a similar setup as the front, I made an extended skid plate and attached a Slayer rear bumper. I then bolted the skid to the chassis, made a few minor adjustments and that was basically it.

Ok another update, paint dry so I got the body finished and mounted. Just need to work on the nerf bars and fine tune the suspension.

Slash/Slayer bumpers fit really well.

looks pretty cool,i got an inferno gt im either gonna sell,or do something like this to.
the bumpers look pretty good,if you didnt already have the slash/slayer parts,i think the hot bodies lsp bumpers would fit the kyosho.they are stadium style like the slashes.
i dig stuff like this,anymore its really hard to be different.

superdave2, I agree and I hope to see more CORR type conversions. It was actually a pretty easy conversion. The main parts would be the body mounts, bumpers and body. Most manufactures make both buggies and truggies and the body mounts can sometimes be used on both models. Truggy body mounts usually are perfect for a CORR body. The bumpers were pretty easy using the extended skid plate setup I used. The Associated SC8 is nice but just too expensive, there are a lot of good buggies (rollers) out there that can be picked up cheap. I would just like to see some scale wheels/tires that fit on a 17mm hub, the associated wheel/tires are pretty cool but pricey.

Well I think that's it for now. I was going to mount some nerf bars but I noticed the Associated SC8 doesn't run any special nerf bars (does have a nice rollcage), just the regular buggy mud guards. I changed out the oil to 50wt all around, added heavier springs and the piggyback shock reservoirs. I also tried on some black rims, what do you think?
