My question comes from playing with different lipos trying to see if mah or C rating really mattered in offroad.

I know I only run 2wd truck but here is my setup.
Factory Team T4 with the Tekin R1 and the 537 BL motor(5T).
These are the lipos I have ran in the truck......
Orion 3200 Carbon 20C 64 amps
Orion 4800 platinum 15C 72 amps
Maxamps 5000 20C 100 amps
TrueRC 4000 15C 60 amps
prices range from 140-55
I know that burst amp draw would be higher and all the companys rate their packs differently.
But I have yet to see a difference in comparing the lipos I have ran.
Let me know what you think
Tony

Very interesting....I was looking at some 15C packs for Stadium truck, as the price is really good. If I really don't need a 30C pack, why pay for it?

Trackpower are made using Enerland cells and between Kokam and Enerland which is the best would be a hard call. I wouldn't have a preference between them, they're both at the top of the list quality wise. Between these two, to me it would come down to price.

Only way to know what your setup is drawing is something like an eagle tree data recorder. I agree if you don't need 20 or 30C why pay for it, but get a high enough C rating so you aren't stressing your lipos. If they are coming off the end of a run at 130F, your setup is drawing more amps than you thought, you needed eitehr bigger capacity of a higher C Rating.

what do u mean why pay for the higher c rateing an orion 3600 and 3800 r 90 Bucks the most ur really gonna pay is 150 and they last a long time. Where as u would pay 50 to 100 for a nimh pack that u need at least 3 of to race with and they wouldent last like a lipo and u only need 1 to race so unless ur spending 2-300 on a lipo buy whatever one u want

Those arent hard-cased and arent allowed for racing. I would just get 1 Orion 3800 for $90 instead of 3 crappy batteries.

I have yet been to a race where they have cared if the lipo was hard cased or not.
Granted none have been a ROAR race.
The only thing I have seen is lipo sacks or lipo safes been used as a requirement.
I run 3 soft packs right now they are great no problems.
just check with the track you will be racing at and make sure everything is ok with you running a soft case lipo.
They will probally just ask that you use a lipo safe of some sort.

As for lipos getting hot. Never had any lipo ever get hot in a 1/10.

NOW 1/8...... Thats some serious amp draw. 140 amps and up

Definately check with the club you are going to race at about soft or hard case lipos. As my club will only allow hard case lipos, they are not worried about the roar approved list, just insist on hard case and that they are charged in a lipo sack or something that will contain a fire/explosion in the unlikely event of one occuring.

My local track states case is not an issue. However, I am not too worried as this will be for a stadium truck, and the battery is well protected in the center of the chassis. If I were running a 4WD saddle pack, it would have to be a hard case.

I was not looking for the best, just some packs for practice. 3 4000 Mah packs for just over 100$ seemed like a good deal...

I'll dump 100$ on the race day pack

I need advice on a Lipo for an xxx-t, MM 5700. I need 30 minutes in the Main. Some guys use maxamps 8000 at the track, but is there anything comparable in performance, but cheaper in the wallet? A 4700 NiMH barely makes it, and slows at 20-25 minutes, so I need an upgrade.

I would look at the Checkpoint 5400 if you want runtime/power then.

Team Checkpoint LIPO's are made by Trakpower. Same cells just repackaged with Team CHeckpoints logo and a red case instead of the gold!
