Default Sidewinder vs. Max ?

What's the difference between the Mamba 5700 sidewinder & Max besides the price?
Thanks

the sidewinder was meant to be like a sport esc, where the max is balls to the wall. also the max comes with the castle link and software, where the sidewinder you have to buy it. I found it for like $20 or so. I also know the sidewinder can handle the 5700, and 4600 where the max can handle that plus the 7700. I have a sidewinder with the 5700 and it works great for me. I think the max you can also throw more power at it

^^That's spot on. I have the sidewinder too. Does me well.
If you want to put in an insane motor, or actually know enough about RC electronics to tweak individual parameters, go for the Max, otherwise the Sidewinder is MORE than enough for anyone not competingat top level.
I don't have the link, and it's easy to set up. Unless you can't count. But then, I don't change my ESC settings every week....

I run a sidewinder with 4600kv motor with 6cell nimh and is great my bro had a mamba max and power output is the same with a 4600 only major difference is the MM handles the 7700kv which is way to much for any usable racing and will handle more lipos

For the price of the Sidewinder you cant beat it even the Mamba Max is priced very well alot better priced then LRP or Novak

Mine seams to have a dead spot on the lowend like quarter or 1/8th throttle anybody else have this problem or is this normal with these systems

In Castle's own words the Sidewinder is only capable of handling 2/3's the power that the Mamba Max is capable of. The Sidewinder will only do 3s on a 4600 motor but when the 5700kv motor is used you are limited to 2s

^^ You can adjust the dead-band right down to zip, can't remember the number, but look in your manual. The defaul neutral dead band is pretty large.

The Sidewinder will do 3s if paired with the 4600kv motor but not the 5700kv. At least so says Castle.

I don't want that then. If I'm going to get rid of my VXL, I'd rather pay a little extra so I can run a 3s if need be in the future. 5700 would probably be plenty fast on my 7 cell for awhile.

Hey, small question:

I have Sidewinder esc, what other motors could I run with it than Castle's own?

Would it handle Speed Passion Competition 6.5r V2? I know Castle recommends not to run higher kv's than their 5700kv, but if I would run it on 5 cells NiMH instead of 6 and maybe get a fan?

Specs:
# New motor can design, which enhance faster gear ration setting
# Light weight, imporve balance on 1/12 on road and 1/10 on road racing
# new high torque copper wire design with more botton end, more run time
# 3 optional timing advance positions
# New color Titanium Grey!!

# Recommended Gearing:
# 6 cell 9.2 to 10.0
# Size: 540
# Turn: 6.5R
# Watts: 550
# Kv3 (RPM/volt): 6800
# Shaft Diam (MM): 3.175
# Rotor Performs (ROM/temp): High/High
# Hand Wound: Yes
# Thermal Protection: Yes

I have seen this buggy run and the 4600 is just as fast as any other motor that runs on our local track. You can only use so much power in racing any extra for a normal club racer is overkill

When you are talking about 1/10th scale off road racing I think just about any decent brushless system/motor is going to have more power than 99% of the tracks out there can handle.
