RC items that are cheaper at hardware store?
I heard about people talking about lead weights that AE sells versus the ones you can get at the tire shop for 1/3 less. What else in this hobby is cheaper at the hardware store? What do you buy at the hardware/auto parts store and not at the RC shop?
-lead weights
-strapping battery tape $5 vs the $20 hudy one for TC

As mentioned, great idea for a thread.
Cable tidies and insulation tape (if you use it)
Solder, flux, etc
Tools / screwdrivers / wrenches (They all turn when your arm moves them, whether or not they say "associated" or "losi"!)
Velcro
It's alllll cheaper than you usually buy from the RC brands

Most hardware store solder (Home Depot) SUCKS. The best readily available alternative is usually Radio Shack solder, if you can't find a good electronic supply store for some Kester solder.

I've had the best experience with Alloy Steel ACE bolts. The flatheads have YFG stamped on them. Some others haven't seemed to hold up as well.
Or go to industrial supply places like Fastenal. Then you can get bolts of known standard ratings.

Body clips: $5 for an 8 pack at the hobby shop -or- $10 for a box of, like, 50 at the hardware store
Sure they might not hold like the R/C ones do, but when they're that cheap you don't mind much when they get knocked off either.
Most cans of automotive brake clean are much cheaper than electric motor spray too, assuming they're plastic safe. I've got a can of CRC brand "Brakleen" sitting here that works well.

I bought a pretty nice little aluminum tool briefcase for $25 at Lowes, with the foam inserts and a tool holder on the top. I use the foam case part to keep my radio, charger and power supply in. I've seen Futaba and other metal cases that sell for 2-3 times as much, and only hold a radio. This one has just enough spots for all my hex/nut drivers, pliers, etc...
