Well.. the best bang for the buck looks like the new Havoc system.... the motor doesn't appear to be on the ROAR approved list, but I doubt any club level race would care too much on such a mild turn.

Here is the ROAR brushless motor approved list

http://www.roarracing.com/approvals/brushlessmotors.php

You could buy it and put a 17.5 on it for stock racing! Wish they would bundle it together for racers on a budget!

The Havoc is the updated XBR. Has a few changes to profile and such. I have two XBRs and they work great. Lipo cutoff works, easy to set up, and handles down to 8.5 motor.

The Mamba Max and/or Sidewinder Kits are a great deal! Not ROAR legal, but brushless power and the ability to tune via a computer!

Uhh... Isn't the answer obvious? Or is there some reason you want to dismiss the Castle MM/SW systems?

The Havoc system looks Like It would be very reliable, but there is a motor limit and It can only go down to an 8.5, If you are running mod at some tracks that would be enough but If you race on a larger track you may want more motor. Two of the top of the line speed controls are the LRP Sphere TC spec and the Novak GTB.

The Sphere T.C. Spec. is defiantly one of the best if not the best speed control out there. This is one of the smoothest speed controls I have ever used. It can use any 540 sized brushless motor and any turn brushed motor. If you are running touring car this would defiantly be the speed control to use, I know the price tag on it is large but this would be the one I would choose.

The Novak GTB is the speed control I am currently running in my T4. It has a smaller price tag and all the same features as the sphere, It may not be as smooth but If you are running offroad this would be a very good speed control. It can also run any 540 sized brushless motor and any turn brushed motor.

also both of these speed controls are able to run lipos and also both have lipo cut of

There is a thread in Electric off-road and the radio and electronics section of the website that have some information on the Havoc and XBR

Fresh supply of migrant labor?

No seriously though, I think it's automation and cut-throat pricing, and quantity probably had more to do with it...

Seems like the Havoc is a great contender against some of the el-cheapo ESC+Motor combos from Hong Kong...

For me, Mamba Max all the way! I was very satisfied after the first one so I had to buy another one!
