Default GTB ESC???

I was thinking of buying a used GTB esc it has a Novak 3.5 motor on it now but alos come with a 10.5. Which the 10.5 is what I am going to use. Do you think that the esc seen it's better days with using the 3.5 as the main motor or should it be fine. I am totally new to the brushless.

If anything.. the motor will show fatigue and not preform as well if it got hot.. The GTBs that go bad we like to call GT"BOOM"s.. they usually go up in smoke!

I love Novak.. but my GTB has gone GT"BOOM" twice now!

So if it runs.. it's probably ok.. if you can get it cheap..doesnt matter much because you can get any GTB fixed from Novak for around $60.

The thing about buying electronics used you don't know their
service life or how they were used. To replace it its more like
$80.00 with shipping and other stuff . So say you buy it for 125 the rough going rate for used one. Then it frys out a week later you pay another
80 you already payed more than a new one. But say it last for quite a
while then you sir have gotten yourself a deal. If you know the person personally or from the track you can see generally how they take care
of there equipement.

Default GTB

Are the GTB's having alot of problems? I'm starting to hear more people say that there's GTBoomed. Another $80 to get another from Novak hurts the wallet. Are the LRP's or anything better?

I hear about just as many LRP's letting out the magic smoke as well. I think a lot if it is user error, but most will say otherwise. Good luck getting the LRP fixed when it goes, I hear it takes awhile to get anything fixed from them.

I've had gtb's and sphere's all let out the magic smoke. Decided to switch to the new tekin rs esc's and have had a great time using them. And there aren't any mile long threads about them blowing up either...yet.

I had one go, but not up in smoke more like it caused my motor to
cog on initial take off. I bought a refurbished one and a new one
so will see how both run this year in off road. I ran the first one
with a 17.5 ss motor . My son will run a 17.5 speed passion motor
with his. If either goes I will switch to another brand. We hardly used
the first one other than once a week racing 3 races a night .
I will admit that one of my wires had a break in the insulation.
How it it effected it internally I am not sure. I just wish they had a
better trouble shooting log. Most manf. know why something failed or generally can tell you what could been some of the problems.
Other than the failure, race wise it was a nice Gtb that was easy to set up.

That's because there is a small percentage of people using Tekin Brushless ESC's compared to LRP and Novak. Almost everyone I race with at some point has owned one or both of the Novak or LRP, I've only seen a single Tekin R1 in use at this point, no RS's.

I've considered the Tekin RS, but to date I've only used the Novak GTB (never failed) LRP Sphere TC (blew up at first connection, swapped for new, no issues) and the Losi Excelorin Sensored (no issues to date).

I think the truth behind making any ESC last is good wiring, and not abusing them by overheating or overloading them.

Default GTB, LRP, Xcelorin

GTB - No problems yet and working great, switched + and - plugs with switch turned OFF and no sparks or burns. Novak has reliable customer service.

LRP TC Spec - No major issues yet and still working, however, switch the + and - terminals on a battery and it will produce an electrical spark (even when OFF) hot enough to melt the plugs when using male bullet connectors (not Deans plugs). I've had a friend leave the + and - ends soldered with reverse polarity to a NiMh battery and fried his LRP TC Spec. It took a very long time to have it serviced.

Losi Xcelorin - No issues yet. I have not reversed polarity by accident so I cannot comment on sparking and I don't intend to find out.
