OK, I've been wanting to try the Tekin motors anyway.

initial opinion of the RS for me is positive. loved all of orton's stuff and so far pleased with the new unit. very smooth and easy to drive. came outta package with no brakes, so that was interesting. fixed that w/some prgm'g. the hotwire software is a lil confusing, but i could be used to castle and its simplicity.

my 10.5 duo is runnin effortlessly here at motorama, with any luck it'll continue that way. was a risk to try a new sys at perhaps 1 of 2 (if only) big races i'll attend this yr. but so far, its a 'tekin'.

Any ideas about a good starting point setup(physical motor timing, Dual or sensored only, timing boost value, timing advance, FDR) for a RS/17.5 combo in a Losi BK2, track is hard and bit slippery, main straight is maybe 60-80 feet, rest of track is quite twisty.
I have the hot wire and version 189

Just wanted to say thanks to Randy for the advice on where to start with the 17.5 redline and hotwire setup. We had 33 entries in stock truck last night, I was 1 of 4 trucks that could clear the triple. This was just with the basic setup Randy gave me, I can't wait to play with the settings a little more since the motor was coming off at 145 deg. after 6 minutes. GREAT POWER from this motor. Thanks again Randy!

Question about my rspro with a 9.5 XXXTcr 86/22..Coming off after a race was 99deg..Profile set simliar to randy's 13.5 profile. but set to dual mode and Motor timing set to 90...

Should i up the timing to 100 before i gear up?

Most people I know are running buggy spur gears which raises your gearing and helps to shift the motor forward ever so slightly. I run AE so I don't pay too much attention to Losi gears but on my T4 with a 13.5 Redline I'm geared at 26 81.

Glad I can help guys!

If you're only 99 degrees you can gear up. I'm sure the motor will just give you more power all over the place. Try gearing up before adding more timing.

For 17.5 I like to see around 20 degrees of motor timing and 10-15 degrees of boost timing. Gear accordingly and make adjustments from there.

I am running a Tekin RS Pro with 10 deg boost and a Hacker 13.5 motor in a FT T4 with a 5400 mah lipo total vehicle weight 1710 grams with a FDR at 7.8. The motor got all the way to 180F after about 8 mins practice run time. I reduced the timing to 5 degrees and after a 5 min main, the temp was only 120F. Does 5 degrees timing make that much difference? Or was it because I was practicing for 8 mins that caused the motor to get so hot? I felt maybe I could increase boost to 10 for heats and mains, but reduce timing to 0 or 5 for practice?

I am very happy with my Tekin RS Pro speed control.

Sensored mode means it relies solely on the internal hall sensors for rotor position, while dual just used the sensors at very low rpm's, IE starting and stopping.

Do you know how much timing the motor itself has? at a certain point of timing, yes, 5 degrees can make a huge difference.

Yeah 5 degrees can be over the top especially if you didn't regear to use it. If you're going to add 5 degrees more timing you MUST regear your car.

Try dropping 2 teeth and using 10 degrees.

Just asking, what's the KV rating of the Redline 5.5T and 6.5T motors? I can't find it in the Tekin website. Thanks.

We don't have them listed because there are so many variances with input power. We're comparable to the "others" out there.
