Losi 1/8 8ight E 4wd Thread

I'm running 7k and they are leaking immediately. Like I said, the o-ring is visibly loose in the Kyosho spur gear.
Maybe 10k is thick enough to not be able to get past though??? I don't know.
I've sealed an o-ring to the spur with RTV. I'll race tomorrow night and know after one run if it worked or not.

I had a big leaking problem with the rc8 diff and I used liquid gasket to seal it. I bet the leak is from where the spur sits on the diff case. Basically, just put the liquid gasket it around the edge of diff case where the spur sits. Screw it down and then take a paper towel and wipe the excess away and this pushes some of it down between the gap of the spur & diff case. After I did this, I didn't get a single drop of a diff fluid leaking ever again.
You can also use the metal-to-metal if you have a hardened pinion. I pretty much went back to using the stock spurs with rc-monster pinions and it helped immensely with the leaking issue since you aren't using a mix of mfg's parts.

No really, there is a fit difference, mine leaks too. Even with a new seal.
It just isn't tight enough inside the gear, needs an oversized O ring.
Someone was gonna try the Kyosho O ring and let us know.
How'd that go?
Anyone?
I'm gonna try it too I guess.

Gotta give a shout out to Rocketron. He got my Losi 8E all squared away. That's great customer service. Just thought I pass this along to my fellow 8E fans. Thanks again Ron and Bill

I raced last night with my Losi diff o-ring RTV'ed into place inside the Kyosho spur gear, and it didn't leak a drop through 2 practice runs, 2 qualifiers and the 15 minute main.
I'm still going to try the Kyosho o-ring too once I get my hands on some, but for now this seems to be an acceptable temporary fix.
I smeared RTV inside the recessed area for the o-ring on the Kyosho gear, then carefully set the o-ring into the RTV so that no RTV was on the inside of the o-ring (where it will be sealing against the output shaft). I let it cure for 24 hours before reassembling.
So basically the RTV is sealing the outside of the o-ring to the spur gear, since this is where the fit was too loose and causing the leak.
So far, so good.
Whoever manages to get a Kyosho o-ring first should report to the rest of us how it fits.

OK guys good news the kyosho diff o rings work. just a little oil came out when I was at the track yesterday.
You need the Kyosho o ring in the kyosho spur
and Losi o ring in the losi diff housing case.
I also installed with a dab of bellray waterproof grease and I use a thin shim between the oring and the drive pin to keep wear down on the oring.
