Only if you use an appropriately lower kv motor to go with.

Power = Volts x Amps

So if you increase volts and keep your power output the same, you will lower your amps, which will lower temps all round.

You can get away with gearing down, ie smaller pinion. but you can only go so far until your motor runs hot due to mechanical inefficiencies..

I am new to brushless/ lipo,I bought an 8b with the mmm and put the monster setup on my 8t.I am in the process of putting a 45t plastic spur setup on it and I have a 13t,15t,and a 16t.which would be ideal on a track with around 80 to 100ft straightaway? I was guessing 13/45,is this about right?

I'm running a 12/45 and it runs a little warm. I bought a 3 pack of Novak pinions 9, 10, and 11 tooth, but they won't work with the Losi motor mount. The next step for me is to start using larger metal spur gears.

The flat round part behind the teeth (where the set screw goes) is too long.

oh, I thought you were wanting to switch to 5s. Yeah, my experience is with a buggy but the same motor/esc combo.

They only make them as small as 12 tooth, which is what I'm using now.

EDIT: I stand corrected, they make an 11 tooth pinion. My LHS didn't even know that.

EDIT AGAIN: They make a 10 tooth pinion too.

Well, I didn't cut ALL the holes out. I didn't see the need to cut out the tiny holes on the sides. If I have heat issues I may try them.

Exclamation

Has anyone tried this set up for a converted 8ight 2.0? So far I am just using the stock set up and wanted to try something different. I feel the shock oil is too light and hoping the thicker diff oil in the center will help.

My setup is very similar to what Drake posted. I would give it a try.
