Default Gearing for Traction/Slipper for Traction

I have a Traxxas Slash.......
My question is this....on a track that is loose and traction is hard to maintain. Should I adjust my slipper clutch, "loose" or gear "up" (say 23T) to help gain traction.

Course is small and tight; loose dirt with fine rock track

If you have enough power on the course and enough run time.. I would try the slipper first. Maybe soften the rear suspension as well...
